Train Up A Champion

Biblical Wisdom To Help Parents Train Up Their Children

“When we train up a child we create within them a thirst for the things of God.  We make them want to know God. We make them excited about God! We make Christ and Christianity, because of the vibrancy of it in our own life, the most exciting and fun thing in the world.”   Dr. David Jeremiah

Teach Your Children To Dream Big Dreams

By Janine Mason

If you want to raise champions that will truly impact the world around them, then you must raise children who know how to dream and who have the courage to pursue those dreams.  Our role as parents requires us to address our own beliefs and lifestyle. It requires a culture of encouragement, and living life as a family in a way that demonstrates that nothing is impossible. As we raise dreamers, we look for areas of passion in our kids, and we are cheerleaders for our kids as they pursue their dreams. We are also the safe place when our kids fail. We use every opportunity to teach them that failure is not fatal and that with God we can be unstoppable.

Time In Your Car With Your Children Can Be Very Precious

By: Holly Duncan

Since we are in our car much of our time with our children, use this time to your benefit.  As my children would get into the car, kids' worship music was on. But we would not just listen to the praise. No, we would also sing along! As the Psalmist said, “Let His praises be in your mouth at all times” (Psalm 34:1). Yes, songs, even silly made-up lyrics of a joyful heart, impact them early on. The Lord can teach children so easily through Biblical based songs.

Also have an intentional thought to share when driving.  You have a captive audience!  Determine to spend this time wisely and not just let it pass day after day with just endless talk that is soon forgotten.  This is an opportunity to invest in your children at that moment.

As my children grew, they knew car time could be set aside for important and sometimes private conversations to be bathed in prayer.  As our children became older, we would jokingly say, “Step into my office,” as a conversation began, signifying we were going deep!

In Deuteronomy it tells parents to talk to their children throughout the day about the Lord.  This will help give them an awareness of God’s ever-present guidance in our daily lives.

Stories Can Help Us Become Champions For The Lord

By Kevin Reagey and Christopher J Reeves

When Dad or Mom read or tell stories to their children it can be a bonding experience between parents and their children. Kids love to hear the same stories read to them over and again.  Teens or young adults may have trouble paying attention in their classes at school, but they are almost always interested in a story. Even when they reach the 20’s or 30’s, they will see a favorite movie multiple times and memorize the dialog.  Yes, as humans we are wired for stories.

This is the way God created us to learn. The commands and the deep truths found in Scripture make sense within story. It is why God gave us the Bible full of true stories to tell and retell. It is why God commanded parents to diligently teach their children, and tell and retell the stories in the Bible. Also, we need to see our Christian life as a story, and pass these on to our children and grandchildren. These stories soon become part of the shared family identity that distinguishes us as children of God.  (Psalm 78: 1-8)
